Making Hrstule tonight... It's a Croatian pasty - eaten at almost every big fat crazy Croat gathering... Recipe below (will add a photo later).
3 eggs
3 Tbsp white sugar
1 pinch of salt
2 Tbsp brandy
1 Tbsp vanilla essence
1 Tbsp lemon essence
Standard Flour - around 2-3 cups, keep adding till turns to a rubbery dough
Add eggs, sugar and mix well. Then add brandy, a pinch of salt and essence's. You can add a tbsp of anise essence if you want. Mix altogether, sift flour into the mixture a little bit at a time and mix till you get the right consistancy. Knead well. May take a little more flour, amount depends on the size of eggs and the amount of flavorings used. Vary flavorings to suit taste. After kneading, split the dough into 4 lots - there will be quite a lot of dough and is easier to roll out in small doses. Roll out very very thin and cut into strips about 3/4 inch wide and 8 inches long. tie strips into loose bow knots. Fry in deep oil at 375 degrees. These cook fast so watch and keep them from browning. Turn one time and remove from hot oil. They take on color while draining. When cold dust with icing sugar.
