Quick and easy doughnut recipe
Made these last night and turned out amazing, like real danny doughnuts you get from those carts... yerrrrmmmmmm... definately fun experiment, though extremely unhealthy...
Serves: 10
- 630g plain flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 80g butter
- 80g sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 cup (250ml) milk
- oil for deep frying
- cinnamon sugar sprinkle
Prep: 10 minutes | Cook: 5 minutes
Sieve flour and baking powder into a bowl and rub in softened butter. Mix in the sugar. I also sprinkled some cinnamon sugar into the mixture (can buy from supermarket in the herb section). Just a lil, maybe 3-4 tbsp.
In a separate bowl, beat egg and milk together, make a well in flour mix and pour in. Mix together to form a soft dough. Let the dough settle for a while, add more flour till get right consistancy. Should turn into a stretchy dough.
Kneed in your hands making little round balls. Flatten a little and then use a round hole cutter to cut the middle out. I used the top funnel thing of an icing bag.
Cook in hot deep frying oil for 30 seconds, turn over and cook for a further 30 seconds until golden brown. Try to control the temp, too hot and they can cook way too fast and not cook on the inside. Watch them carefully, perhaps do just 2 or 3 at a time.
Drain on kitchen paper. Roll in sugar and cinnamon whilst still hot or decorate and serve!
